Meet Emily Henderson from Prayerful Space…
Emily loves creating space for people to meet with Jesus through prayer, creative art journaling and accompanying others through Spiritual Direction.
She loves leading art journaling sessions and teaching people how to use mixed media prayer journaling to slow down and be creative with God.
Art journaling has been such a lifeline and a really important part of how she prays and spends time with God so she loves to share this passion with others. She is really interested in exploring how art journaling and creative prayer can link together with her work as a Spiritual Director. Spiritual Direction is about accompanying others as they explore their journey and experience of God, creating space, listening and together looking for where God is at work in their lives. Emily lives in Bristol (UK) with her husband Phil and their three lively kids.

In Emily’s session…
“I wanted to share with you the process of prayer journaling that I normally use when I want to spend time being still and quiet with God. I start by writing out all my feelings, thoughts, prayers, just dumping it all in Father God’s lap, bringing my whole self into God’s presence and then as I start to cover it all up with paint and collage I am able to let go, my mind becomes still and I am able to hear his still small voice.
This time I was reminded of Matthew 6v25-27 where Jesus says, “Do not worry about your life….look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Also the story of Mary and Martha where Jesus tells Martha; “You are worried and upset about many things,” Luke 10:41
Introduction
Emily introduces herself and shows us a peek inside her art journal. She explains how Art Journaling helps her concentrate in prayer, release her emotions and hear God’s voice.
Main lesson:
Look at the birds
Through the process of creating this page we can lay some of the things that we are anxious and upset about at the feet of Jesus and receive his peace and love instead. It is less about the image that you create and more about the process of bringing your worries, laying them down and receiving from Jesus.
We’re excited to see how you get on with this tutorial- please share your pages in our private facebook group. Join here.
