Let’s learn about layers in this mega demo of all that you can throw at a page! A three-part mixed media feast of paint, collage, stencilling, coffee, photograph, fabric and much more…
Part One
Let’s get started! In this video I introduce the idea of layers and we start playfully with some collage, paint and ink, experimenting with transparency to let those layers dance together.
Part Two
Inspired by bible verses, worship songs and an old movie, meaning starts to unfold on the page. We capture it with journaling and an image in a pocket.
Part Three
We conclude by adding some words in different ways and a few finishing touches, including some treasures from nature. I love how my page turned out and I hope you’re feeling inspired too!
Now your turn:
It’s ok, I’m not expecting you to recreate my page exactly as is (which would be both impossible and pointless!). Instead you are going to create your own completely different page unique to YOU but following a similar recipe.
I counted at least 11 layers in the process I followed, I’ve listed them on this recipe card for you. Why don’t you start following the recipe and see where it takes you? But also PLEASE give yourself freedom to deviate however the mood takes you, with whatever supplies you enjoy.
I wanted to show you in this demo the full potential of a multi layered textural page using a good range of supplies. I hope you found it inspiring, but if you’re feeling a little intimidated, don’t worry, the final demo is a little simpler.
