Journaling
“We cultivate love when we allow our most vulnerable and powerful selves to be deeply seen and known” Brené Brown
“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.” Psalm 139
Why journaling?
I know you are probably excited to start splashing paint around, but we’re going to start with some writing- a particularly powerful type of writing called journaling. What is journaling? Why is it a useful practice and how does it help us draw nearer to God?
Can you remember a time when you dared to be vulnerable with someone- how did it go? Would you trust them with your feelings again?
Sometimes people hurt us and we need ask God for healing so we can move towards forgiveness.
But God is not going to hurt us. He is love. Our journals are a safe space to be honest with him.
How do you feel about getting honest with God?
Let’s journal our thoughts
How do we add written journaling to our art journals? Let me show you some tips and tricks how to make your handwriting even more illegible(!) and then turn it into the beginnings of a work of art.
YOUR TURN: Grab yourself a selection of pens, pencils, crayons (and maybe a wax candle) and begin to fill your journal with your thoughts. Fill three different double page spreads on three different occasions. Brush over some water and see what happens!
